What You Need to Know About Medicaid Renewal Notices

Every year, the State reviews information for all Medicaid members to make sure they are still eligible. This process is called “Medicaid renewal.” You can find your anticipated renewal date in the Medicaid Renewal Lookup Portal.

When your Medicaid renewal happens, you’ll get certain notices from the State of Rhode Island. Keep your contact information up to date so you don’t miss these important notices.

Renewal Notices You May Get

Many Medicaid members will be renewed automatically. If your Medicaid is renewed automatically, you’ll get:

Benefits Decision Notice (BDN)

If we have all of the information we need about you to renew your Medicaid coverage, we will send you a Benefits Decision Notice.

Medicaid Renewal Notices

Sometimes, the State needs more information to see if you’re still eligible for Medicaid. If we need more information to determine your eligibility, we will send you two notices:

We mail these two notices separately. Make sure you watch for both and take action right away. After we receive and review your information, you’ll get a Benefits Decision Notice (BDN) that tells you if your Medicaid coverage is renewed.

Recertification/Renewal Notice (Action Required)

If we don’t have enough information about your household or if we think you may no longer be eligible for Medicaid, you’ll get this yellow LTSS notice when it’s your turn to renew. It says: “Action Required. Review the Information We Have on File for You.”

The notice will include a list of documents you must provide. If you get this notice, you’ll also receive a white Additional Documentation Required notice. This notice will arrive separately from the yellow notice.

What you must do: When you receive the white Additional Documentation Required notice, gather the documents listed on your notice. Provide your signed Medicaid renewal notice AND any required documents to us before the due date on the yellow notice.
